Policy Information:* Background Paper - Sexual and Reproductive Health for People of Refugee Background. While there have been significant improvements in the provision of health services for people of refugee background, there are gaps in the research evidence base around sexual and reproductive health and the programs available to address these needs. This paper provides an overview of the key presenting issues, available data and key service responses relating to sexual and reproductive health for people of a refugee backgorund in Victoria. Sexually Transmitted Infections
* The Centre for Culture, Ethnicity and Health, through its Multicultural Health and Support Service (MHSS), has produced a DVD resource kit: Bridging Differences, Enhancing Understanding to assist other health services in working with refugee and migrant communities.
The resources were developed as part of a project on raising awareness of hepatitis C and sexually-transmissible infections in a culturally appropriate manner. It can be used to support training in culturally appropriate health promotion and is suitable for tertiary courses in social work, health promotion, community development and youth work; local councils that offer services to CALD communities; community health centres; and health promotion agencies and services.

* Developing Materials on HIV/AIDS for low-literate audiences - This manual has been developed by Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH) & Family Health International/Impact (FHI) (2002). The focus is on developing print materials for programs to reduce the incidence of STIs, including HIV/AIDS. To download the manual click here.

*Everybody's business DVD - A free training package for educators specifically designed to assist in Hepatitis C training with CALD communities in Australia. The training package contains a 20 minute Hepatitis C DVD available in Arabic, Mandarin, Indonesian, Khmer, Somali, Spanish, Thai and Vietnamese. The package also includes a facilitators manual CD-ROM which contains instructions, overheads and handouts for activities that can be used in education sessions. Download order form here.

* Getting it right (HIV/AIDS): Pamphlet that covers issues including what is HIV/AIDS, transmission, condom use, testing, HIV/AIDs and discrimination, the health system in Australia, and traveling safe. Antenatal
1. African antenatal DVD: 'Your Pregnancy Your Health' is a new African antenatal DVD available in Somali, Dinka and Arabic. This free resource was developed to inform and encourage women to present early for antenatal care aims to improve antenatal health and subsequent birth outcomes of women and their babies from small and emerging African communities.
The DVD is designed for use with groups, at home with friends and family or at community centres such as Migrant Resource or Language Centres or anywhere members of African communities are gathered and/or are accessing settlement services. Health professionals may find it useful in generating discussion about cultural differences and how they can impact on health.
