1. Assisting Refugee Mothers New to Australia with Infant Feeding Issues: A guide for health professionals working with refugee mothers from Burundi, DR Congo and South Sudan (August, 2008). This background paper provides information about some of the cultural beliefs, practices and norms that need to be considered when addressing breastfeeding initiation and duration within these refugee communities. Developed as part of the ASeTTS Good food for New arrivals project (see below).


2. Association for Services to Torture and Trauma Survivors (ASeTTS) Good Food for New Arrivals
Provides information on nutrition, food habits and food security, Vitamin D deficiency and cultural food information. Includes cross-cultural resources and Vitamin D deficiency information in Arabic and Vietnamese.

3. First Foods for Babies is a brochure produced as part of the Food for Everbody project in conjunction with the Maternal Child Health team of the City of Greater Dandenong. The brochure is available in English and a number of community languages including Albanian, Arabic, Sudanese Arabic, Dari, Nuer, KhmerMandarin and Vietnamese.


4. Healthy Eating in Brimbank is a food security project  to improve access to, and intake of, healthy foods for all residents of Brimbank. It is a project partnership between Brimbank City Council,  ISIS Primary Care, Migrant Resource Centre North West and WestNet and funded by VicHealth  through their Food For All program.
 
A Welcome Kit for new arrivals and people of a refugee background contains a series of 5 fact sheets translated into 6 community languages (Amharic, Arabic, Somali, Tigrinyan, Khmer, Dari, English) has been developed to assist with familiarisation of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as healthy and safe food practices.

5. Healthy Eating in Latrobe Valley is a new nutrition resource addressing the nutritional needs of Latrobe Valley’s local Sudanese community. Adapted from the Healthy Eating in Brimbank resource, it includes 5 fact sheets translated into Nuer and Dinka and maps of the four main towns in the Latrobe Valley. Each map contains the location and contact details of supermarkets, fruit and vegetable stores and butchers in each town. For more information click here. 6. Healthy Living in Australia: The Migrant Information Centre Eastern Melbourne has produced a 44 page pictorial guide to living healthy in Australia (available in Arabic, Chin (Hakha) Chinese, English and Karen). This resource is based on foods readily available in Australia to assist newly arrived community members make healthy food choices. 7. Healthy Living in Wyndham Karen Community Resource Kit: an initiative of the Wyndham Humanitarian Network's Health and Wellbeing Working Group. It aims to help newly arrived families to live a healthy and safe life in Australia. The 7 health and safety topics included in this resource kit are: Safety in the home; Dental health; Personal health; Healthy food habits; Staying fit and active; Alcohol and Tobacco; Mental health. Each information sheet provides general information as well as referrals for further assistance. 8. Healthy Eating Resource Kit for Workers developed by Monash University Dietitian Students, Carol Ho and Kelly He in August 2008 under the supervision of Jenny Trezise (APD, AN) City of Greater Dandenong and Shireen Hii (APD, AN) Greater Dandenong Community Health Service. It is designed to be used by community workers who work with people with low literacy levels. Contains handouts and information intended to be used as a tool for education on general nutrition principles.
