Below are two case studies of innovative programs currently delivering sexual and reproductive health information to young refugees in Victoria. The case studies not only provide a brief overview of the program but also provide a personalised account of running the program from the facilitators involved. Both programs demonstrate the importance of incorporating fun activities to make the delivery of messages on sensitive topics such as sexually transmitted infections and contraception more accessible and memorable.
1. Human Relations Program, Western English Language School
The Human Relations Program run at the Western English Language School (WELS) is a relationship and sexuality program for newly-arrived young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The program aims to promote healthier choices with respect to sexual and reproductive health, and mental health, and to educate about, and prevent, family violence.
